7 Tradie Marketing Tips

Back in the day the only way to spread news about your business was word of mouth or business cards. Not anymore boys ‘n gals!

From setting up a website to showing before and afters, tradies have to learn how to stand out from the crowd.

Not sure where to start? Here are our top tips for marketing as a tradesman.

  1. Set Up A Website

A website is one of the first things your potential customers will be looking for, it will make your business look more legitimate PLUS it’s a chance for you to really stand out with your services.

If you haven’t built a website before, no sweat! Platforms such as WixWordPress and SquareSpace have easy to use templates to get ya going.  But if sitting in front of a screen isn’t your jam, there are plenty of online website builders that can do all the hard graft for you!

(Just make sure your contact details are super easy to find for your potential punters!)

  1. Be Easy To Find

Now that you have your shiny new website set up, the next step is to make sure it is easy to find. No idea how to do this? Turn your attention to search engines (the most popular are Google and Bing… sorry Jeeves).

Here are some top tips that are effective for small businesses:

  • You want to make your website easy to follow. Really look at how easy your pages are to find and how well they link up with one another. If you have no idea what we’re on about, there are a few online guides which have all the information you need.
  • Optimise your website! you should include relevant phrases that people often search for. For example if you’re an electrician in Sydney, the phrase ‘electricians in Sydney’ should be featured in your titles, and website text.
  1. Let’s Get Social

With everyone and their Nan on social media you’d be mad not to tap into it. According to Statista.com  2.8 billion people are on Facebook and is the most popular social media platform in the world. Facebook and Instagram should be your first point of call, they’re free and the new form of marketing to your potential clients.

  1. Get Listed

You’ll want to get yourself on online business directories as this will help to attract new customers and help with your SEO ranking. Here are some examples to get you started:

  1. Provide Business Cards

We’re taking it back to the old school!

Convenient, cheap to print and contains all your contact info ready to hand out. How many times have you been chatting to old mate and ended up writing your service details on a coaster?  Well even if it’s never, keeping your business cards in your back pocket makes sure that you don’t miss out on those opportunities.

If you really want to make the most of your business card get a batch printed as a magnet for your customers to keep handy on the fridge.

  1. Take Before and Afters

People bloody love a before and after photo, and this is the perfect opportunity to showcase your skills. Even better if you can get your customers to post images on their Facebook and tag your business name in it!

  1. Get Those Reviews

From booking holiday accommodation to where you’re taking the missus out for your anniversary, reviews matter. Don’t be shy to ask your happy customer to leave a review of your services for that social proof.
